{"id":3490,"date":"2014-04-10T19:26:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-11T02:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kbtechworks.com\/kbranch\/blog\/?p=3490"},"modified":"2014-04-07T09:33:00","modified_gmt":"2014-04-07T16:33:00","slug":"the-slow-cooker-period-of-karens-cooking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kbtechworks.com\/kbranch\/blog\/archives\/3490","title":{"rendered":"The slow cooker period of karen&#8217;s cooking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As you might remember, a couple months ago, when the new kitchen provided more space, I got a slow cooker (aka a crock pot).<\/p>\n<p>I started out slow with it, making some things you&#8217;d expect like soups and stews.<\/p>\n<p>Then I started thinking about it as a way to save propane. (Since we&#8217;re on solar, using anything electric is preferable. And surprisingly, the slow cooker doesn&#8217;t draw a lot of electricity.) So I went to the library to get some books on what exactly you could do with one of these things, and I found two of the most amazing cookbooks ever (which I promptly ordered several copies of):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Vegan-Slow-Cooker-Intensely\/dp\/1592334644\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1396373824&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=The+Vegan+Slow+Cooker\"><em>The Vegan Slow Cooker<\/em><\/a> by Kathy Hester<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fresh-Vegetarian-Slow-Cooker-Recipes\/dp\/1558322566\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1396373848&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=Fresh+from+the+Vegetarian+Slow+Cooker\"><em>Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker<\/em><\/a> by Robin Robertson<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Oh my gosh! I had no idea.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of the things you can make with a slow cooker: granola (which I often make&#8230;it takes hours in the oven, not only using a lot of propane but heating up the whole house), baked breads and brownies, breakfast porridges, baked potatoes (which I love, but hesitate to heat the whole oven up for), enchiladas, eggplant parmigiana, curries, fruit butters, chutneys, and much more!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/karenandbrademerson\/13593716225\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3819\/13593716225_041c3113ab.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/karenandbrademerson\/sets\/72157643268144745\/\">Here are some more pictures of things I&#8217;ve made so far.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m gradually working my way through many new recipes and will update this picture set as I do.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a slow cooker and haven&#8217;t used it much, do yourself a favor and get one of these cookbooks and give something new a try.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you might remember, a couple months ago, when the new kitchen provided more space, I got a slow cooker (aka a crock pot).
